The CHI 2025 TEXT paper (Bhatia et al.) lists 176 headset typing techniques from 2013–2023. Handex is not one of those rows.
It is a physical one-handed keyboard. Characters are finger actions on a shaped chassis, not a coordinate on a board and not a bare-hand pose in a headset. Closest published neighbors include Tap Strap, Twiddler, FingerText, and TipText. I have not scored Handex against them yet, so this page does not say “first.”
The inventor’s own measurement is about 20 words per minute on standard sentences. FingerText’s published figure is 33.1. A bare-hand Quest study (FingerType) reported about 10.6. Those are their numbers. Twenty is mine, on a prototype.
This page is for researchers who want to say where the device sits. It is not a purchase offer and not a funding request. A useful reply is “this is already covered” or “talk to this lab.”
